It was a memorial service fit just right for the Godfather of Soul, James Brown. Thousands packed the James Brown Arena located in the heart of the legends' hometown of Augusta, Ga. to pay their last respects. Brown was honored, with song and praise as his body lay in a gold casket in front of the spirit-filled stage. A reported crowd of more than 8 thousand were in attendance.

Pop Superstar Michael Jackson and MC Hammer were among the celebrities who turned out to express their love for the singing sensation, with Jackson saying Brown was an inspiration to his life and career.

Additional memorial services were held earlier in the week in the streets of Harlem and at the Appolo Theatre.

Brown died early Christmas morning after a bout with pneumonia and heart failure. He was 73.
