Nine-time Grammy Award-winning musician and New Orleans native Wynton Marsalis will announce on Emeril Live his return to New Orleans for a live television special on the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, which devastated the lives of hundreds of thousands of Louisiana and Mississippi residents.

Marsalis and his production partner Lisa Marie Hoggs will join forces with two of television’s top producers, John Cossette and Don Mischer, to produce "New Orleans: Rebuilding the Soul of America…One Year Later," a live television special taking place at the New Orleans Morial Convention Center. Harrah’s New Orleans Casino is providing financial and logistical support for the event as Platinum sponsor.

Proceeds of the event will benefit the Rebuild the Soul of America (R.S.O.A.) Charitable Trust, which will issue grants for real estate development and projects to bring back the music and culture to the area.

Marsalis plans a three-day tribute to New Orleans, from August 27 through the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina on August 29, to include the television special; the Ambassador of Swing Talent Search at Harrah’s New Orleans’ Theater, featuring performances by Marsalis, jazz vocalist Cassandra Wilson and some of the hottest local talent in Louisiana and Mississippi; and Cooking with Music, an event featuring Emeril Lagasse and Marsalis to welcome back New Orleans school children. The Emeril Live show featuring Marsalis will air throughout the summer to herald the upcoming commemorative events.
