Oprah's Legends Ball Brings Together Finest for Legendary Bliss

Talk show host and media mogul, Oprah Winfrey wowed audiences on national television during her dream come true - "Oprah's Legendary Ball." The event, held at the Bacara Resort in Santa Barbara, California, honored African American Women who have paved the way for many others. reports 400 guests from all over the world attended the big event. The website says legends who were celebrated include: Shirley Caesar, Pattie LaBelle, Corretta Scott King, Nancy Wilson, Tina Turner, Maya Angelou, Cicely Tyson, Aretha Franklin, Rosa Parks, Dorothy Height, Diana Ross, Diahann Carroll, Lena Horn and many more. The celebration took place over a weekend, with a brunch and a luncheon in addition to the white tie ball.

Gospel Great Bebe Winans was a guest vocalist. As he sang, he passed around the microphone in the audience. The spontaneous move had emotions running high. Chaka Kahn, Pattie LaBelle, Shirley Ceaser, Yolanda Adams, and others who held the microphone belted out spiritually filled gospel tunes. During the televised program on ABC, an amazed Winfrey said the musical scene was not planned.

The program showed how some members of the audience said they were moved in ways that they had never experienced before. The musical helped to make this legendary celebration certainly unforgettable.
