Chaka Kahn; Four Play Kick Off Capital Jazz Fest

The 17th annual Capital Jazz Fest kicked off with a a smashing performance from one of R and B's Greatest - Chaka Kahn.

Hundreds of fans from across the nation braved the rain, and cooler temperatures to fill the Merriweather Post Pavilion, Friday in Columbia, Maryland.

Chaka belted out her powerful tunes with a trio of back ground singers that was just as stunning. The audience was so moved by Chaka's performance as she sang old school and new school jams - and spoke highly of a higher power which she says pulled her through some tough times in life.

Fans spoke with were touched by Chaka's melodies, music and message. "I came here from New York and to start it off with Chaka Kahan was perfect. She's so inspiring," said Donna Hull. Jaclin McClure traveled from Annapolis, Maryland to enjoy the excitement - she too was inspired. "I love Chaka Kahn. The jazz fest is so nice. I just love it, and will be back tomorrow!!"

Before Chaka graced the stage, the smooth jazz band Four Play set the tone for the launching of jazz fest with its silky sounds. Fans were wowed by the band that's a dynamic staple in the world of jazz.
